KOLKATA POLICE SI ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Educational Qualifications for Police SI
The Post of SI includes many tasks which require the candidate to make fast and efficient decisions in tight time frames. Therefore, the candidates should have a minimum of an undergraduate degree to be eligible for the advertised vacancies. Below are the details for Police SI qualification required from the candidates for the post of Sub Inspector:
- The candidates must at least have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or institute in India.
- The candidates should also have basic common sense and should have reasoning capabilities.
- As a requirement for the selection procedure, candidates will have to go through a personality test. The candidate’s personality and suitability for the job will be tested in this test.
- The aspiring candidates must be able to speak, read and write the Bengali language.
Age Limit for Police SI
The WB Police SI age limit for the post of Sub Inspector in West Bengal Police ranges from 20 years to 27 years. But candidates falling under reserved categories can avail the benefit of relaxation over the age limit. There are many category-wise divisions of the candidates for the selection process and each of the categories has its own category-specific relaxation overage. Physical Standards for WB Police SI
Apart from the above mentioned West Bengal Police SI Eligibility Criteria, there are some physical standards that a candidate should meet for getting selected. The physical standards change according to the category of candidates. Read the table below to get the related information:
For the post of Sub-Inspector in Kolkata Police:
(i) Male Candidates:
(a) Height – 1.67 mtrs.
(b) Weight- 51.5 kgs.,
(c) Chest Measurement:
- i) Minimum 79 cms after exhalation.
- ii) Minimum expansion of 5 cms after inhalation (expansion)
(d) Vision-according to
Health Manual.
(ii) Female Candidates:
(a) Height – 1.60 mtrs.
(b) Weight- 45 kgs.,
(c) Vision-according to Health Manual.
POLICE SI EXAM DETAILS
PROCEDURE: There shall be a common selection procedure for the Recruitment of Sub-Inspector/ Lady Sub-Inspector & Sergeant of Kolkata Police. The Selection procedure will consist of three successive stages:
- i) PHYSICAL MEASUREMENT
The physical measurement relating to height, weight and chest of the candidates shall be
taken by special team(s) constituted for the purpose by the Kolkata Police Recruitment Board.
WRITTEN EXAMINATION
The Scheme Of Examination was revised as per the notification No. 5077-PL/PI/8C-04/2009 (PT-I), Dated 05/12/2011 Govt. of West Bengal,
Home Department, the written Examination will consist of three papers and will be held on a single day. Paper – I English, General Studies and Arithmetic carrying a total of 100 marks.
This paper will consist of multiple-choice objective type questions on English (20 Marks),
General Studies (40 Marks) and Arithmetic (40 Marks) and will be of one and half hour (11/2) hrs. duration. Paper – II English (Conventional Type). Paper – III Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali (Conventional Type).Paper – II and Paper – III will carry 50 Marks each. Both the Papers will be of one hour’s duration each.
iii) PERSONALITY TEST
The Personality Test will carry 50 Marks.
The Kolkata Police Recruitment Board shall have the discretion to fix qualifying marks in
Paper – I and each of Paper – II and Paper – III and also in the aggregate of the conventional
type part. It shall also have discretion to relax such qualifying marks in the cases of
SC/ST/OBC candidates of West Bengal.
SYLLABUS FOR THE WRITTEN EXAMINATION:
- Paper – I, (a) General Studies
(40 Marks) Multiple Choice – objective type: Questions will be set to test the General
Knowledge of candidates in different spheres; (b) Arithmetic (40 Marks) Multiple Choice – objective type: Questions will be set on the basis of the syllabus of Madhyamik Examination of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. (c) English (20 Marks) Multiple Choice – objective type: Correct use of words, correction of sentences, use of common phrases, synonyms and antonyms etc
- Paper – II, English (50 Marks) (Conventional Type Examination) Questions may be set on all or any of the following items: (a) Writing essay, drafting of a report from the points or material supplied, (b) Translation from Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali, as the case may be to English, (c) Condensing of a prose passage (summary/precis),
- Paper – III, Bengali/Urdu/Hindi/Nepali (50 Marks) (Conventional Type Examination) questions may be set on all or any of the following tems:
(a) Writing essay, drafting of a report from the points or materials supplied.
(b)Translation from English to Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali, as the case may be, (c)Condensing of a prose passage (summary/precis),
(d) Grammar.
SALARY DETAILS:
The posts carry the Pay band scale of Rs. 7100 – 37600 + Grade Pay Rs. 3900 (PB-3), plus other admissible allowances.
