About WBCS

The state Civil Services Exam named WBCS (EXE) Exam is conducted by The West Bengal Public Service Commission. It takes place annually or when the Commission announces the date. The WBPSC exam is a three-tier examination- Preliminary, Mains, and Interview.

Latest Updates and Notification

  • WBCS Exam Postponed – 
  • WBPSC WBCS Mains 2020 has been postponed. In the latest notice dated 27th April 2021, the Commission has announced the postponement of all written examinations that were scheduled to take place between 7th May and 30th June 2021.
  • WBCS Prelims 2021, scheduled for 30th May 2021 is an objective paper that takes place at Kolkata centres. However, WBCS Prelims 2021 is postponed.
  • Candidates are advised to keep a check on the official website of the Commission for any related update.
  • The WBCS Interview 2019 will take place online. It will start on 30th April and will end on 20th May 2021. 
  • WBPSC has announced WBCS WPSC Results.

Age Eligibility

  • Minimum WBCS Age Limit for:
  • Group A and C – 21 years
  • Group B – 20 years (For West Bengal Police Service only)
  • Group D – 21 years
  • Maximum WBCS Age Limit for:
    • Group A and C – 36 years (As on January 1 of the year of the examination)
    • Group B – 36 years (As on January 1 of the year of the examination)
    • Group D – 39 years (As on January 1 of the year of the examination)
  • Those candidates whose date of birth lies between the 1st January 2000 & the 1st January 2001 [i.e. whose age is between 20 & 21 years as on 01.01.2020] may apply for Group B only.
  • Age, as‌ ‌recorded‌ ‌only‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌Madhyamik‌ ‌or‌ ‌equivalent‌ ‌certificate, will be accepted.
  • The age limits apply to all the candidates whether in Government service or not.

Educational Qualification

As per the WBCS 2021 educational qualification criteria, the candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree i.e. an undergraduate degree in any discipline from any recognised state of central University. Additionally, the aspirant should have the ability to read, write and speak in Bengali (not required for those aspirants whose mother tongue are Nepali).

Percentage/Marks

WBPCS releases the WBCS cut off each year after the examination. The WBCS cutoff is determined based on various parameters such as the difficulty level of the exam, the average performance by the candidates, the number of vacancies, etc. The WBCS cutoff 2021 is yet to be released. WBCS Exam Stages/Process

WBPSC has notified the WBCS selection process of 2021 for the civil services examination. It is a 3 stage exam, which is mentioned below:

  • WBCS Prelims Exam
  • WBCS Mains Exam
  • WBCS Personality Test

WBCS Prelims 2021 exam is a screening test to shortlist candidates for the WBCS Mains Exam. Candidates who qualify the WBCS Mains exam are eligible for the interview. The Mains and Interview scores are counted for the final selection list.

    • The Prelims paper consists of General Studies and Aptitude questions of 200 marks to be solved in 2.5 hours duration
  • The marks obtained from this exam will not be added to the final result. It is only a screening test to admit students to the mains examination

WBPSC Mains Exam Pattern 2021

The WBPSC Mains Exam pattern consists of 6 compulsory papers consisting of 200 marks each (objective and written) and 2 optional papers (Only for candidates applying for group A and/or B). The list of WBCS Mains Exam Compulsory Papers is mentioned below.

Note- Group ‘A’ & ‘B’: All 6 compulsory papers and one optional subject consisting of two papers.

Interview

The Commission has announced that the interview of the WBCS 2019 examination will be taken online. The following things to be noted:

  • Candidates will receive their time slots on their e-mail IDs registered with the Commission.
  • One can take this interview from any location.
  • A candidate has to make himself/herself available online 30 minutes ahead of their time slot.
  • Candidates should make sure that the place where they take their interview is a well-illuminated one without the presence of anyone else with them.
  • Candidates are advised to keep their mobile phones handy just in case the video call is struck due to unseen circumstances.
  • Important documents, that candidates must upload at least three working days at the official website are:
  • Recent passport-sized colored photograph
  • Certificate/Admit Card of Madhyamik/equivalent examination showing the date of birth of the candidate
  • Graduation Certificate/Mark Sheet
  • SC/ST/OBC certificate, if applicable
  • Current ‘NCL’ certificate (for OBC candidates only)
  • PWD certificate, if applicable

How to Apply

Candidates have to log in to https://pscwbonline.in and fill the form once the official notification comes out for that particular year. WBCS Notification 2021 was released in December 2020 and the application process got over on 20th January 2021.

How to apply online for the WBCS 2021

  • Visit the official website and register yourself using a valid email id and phone number.
  • After validation with an OTP, fill the complete WBCS application form 2021 with correct information.
  • Upload the scanned photograph and signature. Please note that the size should not be more than 100Kb.
  • Proceed to make the payment of WBCS application fee 2021 to complete the application form.
  • Save a copy of the completed WBCS application form 2021 for future reference.

Salary
